About
our story
In 2005, we began to imagine a discipleship experience for men that would challenge men to follow Christ, while gaining an understanding and commitment to living a life of kingdom purpose. We imagined an experience grounded in the reality of the gospel, informed by understanding our own life stories through the lens of faith, and experienced in a community of grace and acceptance. We came to the conclusion early on that many men in the church have a working knowledge of God to one degree or another, but they have very poor knowledge of self, especially one that is based in reality and the gospel. How better to know yourself than through a guided retelling of your own story in the company of a small group of men that have chosen to take the same journey with you? This, we decided, is what we need to learn how to do in order to help other men do the same.
In 2006, eight men experienced the first For King and Kingdom (4KK) retreat. Since then, hundreds of men have participated in this intense discipleship experience. God is using 4KK to deepen our relationship with Him and each other. It is a catalyst to free men to live into their destiny in the kingdom of God through their leadership in their churches, their families, and their communities.
The world needs Christian churches full of men dedicated and committed to Jesus, and to “making disciples and teaching them all that I have commanded”. Too often, men in the church need something to arouse their hearts, to awaken a sleeping warrior for the King and his Kingdom mission. The church of Jesus needs dangerous men, men of strength and courage that are willing to take great risks for the King and for each other.
That is exactly what a 4KK experience has done and can do for men and for the church!

About the retreat
Love gives us courage
It takes courage to live against the grain of the culture. It takes courage to make unpopular decisions for our families and other relationships. Even if we know what we are supposed to do and want to do it, it often takes great courage to follow through.
Where do we find this kind of courage?
It’s not impossible from time to time to act courageously on your own initiative, men can do that. To live courageously day after day following a radical and nonconformist King is a different challenge, one that requires committed companions … committed to the mission and committed to each other. This is where we find courage.
The beauty and the power of love are experienced as we enter into the holy ground of another man’s story, his life. Nothing breaks down the walls of fear and comparison like the sharing and hearing of the deepest places in a man’s heart. When experienced in an environment of genuine love and acceptance, a bond is forged that makes a man stronger than he imagined he ever could be. It galvanizes us into a company of men that together will find the courage to live our lives on mission For King and Kingdom.
A man will rarely take 4 days out of his full and busy life to pause for a little while and take a serious and critical look at his own life and story. It is through a proper understanding of the story we each have lived that leads to a humble and honest understanding of who we are a better grasp of who God is.
We spend a significant amount of time during our 4 days together:
- Experiencing several tools designed to help us achieve humble self-knowledge.
- Helping other men do the same.
- Learning how to apply our new understanding to our life in a way that impacts our personal growth and those in our realms of influence.
“Embedded in our stories, deep down in our hearts, is a place so well guarded that it barely sees the light of day. Down there are big questions. The kind of questions that can change your life.”
Thomas Merton

The Point at Degray
The Pointe is the home to Tucker Lodge and Olds Lodge, where many of our retreats are hosted. As part of the For King and Kingdom 501(c)(3) organization, these lodges exist to support churches and nonprofits by offering a world-class retreat space dedicated to transformational experiences.
Core Beliefs
Every 4KK retreat is grounded in these beliefs and spiritual convictions:
THE BIBLE
The Bible is the inspired word of God, written by men guided by the Holy Spirit to whom God revealed Himself. It is our trustworthy guide for truth, faith, and life. The Bible is without error and is the final authority for all of a believer’s life. It records the story of God’s redemptive love to win a lost world back to Him. It tells us who God is, why He loves us, what He has done for us, and what His plans are for us.
GOD
There is one God, who created all things, infinitely perfect and always existing in three persons –Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
GOD THE FATHER
God is the Creator of the universe and by His power sustains and rules over all creation. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
GOD THE SON
Jesus Christ is the one and only eternal Son of God. Although co-equal with the Father, He humbly came to earth and fully became a man. He demonstrated Gods love toward us and made His grace available to us by dying a sacrificial death on a cross. After three days, He rose from the grave and conquered death. Jesus now acts as the mediator between God and His people and offers forgiveness, a new relationship as a child of God, and eternal life for everyone who believes in Him.
GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, fully divine and his role is to glorify Jesus Christ as Lord. The Holy Spirit dwells within God’s people. The Holy Spirit comes to us as a gift at the time of our salvation to be a Helper and Guide. The Spirit assures us that we are God’s children, unifies us in Christ, and equips us with spiritual gifts for Christian service. The Spirit instructs, guides, molds, convicts, comforts us, and produces godly virtues in our lives.
MANKIND
Man is created in the image of God, designed to recognize and honor Him as God, live in fellowship with Him, and share in His oversight of creation. But
man rebelled and fell into sin. Death entered the world through sin, and
humanity is now lost, a prisoner to sin and death, and separated from God our Maker. But God gave us the choice to love Him, or to turn away. It is impossible for us through our own efforts to make amends and experience reconciliation with God. Only Jesus, through the grace of God, can bridge this
SALVATION
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to
all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Jesus died on the cross as a
sacrifice for our sins. The death of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only way of salvation and freedom for all who confess and turn away from their sins and follow Him. Only those who submit to Jesus as Messiah, Lord and Savior are born again by the Holy Spirit and become children of God. Those who reject God’s call to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior will on judgment day be separated from God and His blessings.
“Men need deep encounters with God if they’re going to be useful to Him. This begins with openness and transparency about their past, their needs, their hurts, their fears. Biblical truth must be provided to teach them the path, and they must give God time to let the Holy Spirit do His transforming work. This is dramatically enhanced when they encounter Christ in the midst of a confidential group of godly men who are there to help them. This is the core of the 4KK movement. It has transformed our men at The Summit Church. I highly recommend it!”
